History

On 9–10 September 1993, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the General Milan Rastislav Štefánik Air Force Academy in Košice (formerly known as the Slovak National Uprising Air Force Academy in Košice), the Academy organised its first international scientific conference under the title “Training of Aviation Specialists for the 21st Century.” The event focused on the training of aviation professionals for military aviation and was attended by representatives of European aviation faculties from Germany, France, England, Austria, Poland, Hungary, and the United States.

In 1996, during its second edition, the conference was renamed to “The Aviation of the Future,” and since its third edition in 1998, it has been known as “New Trends in Aviation Development.” Subsequently, the thematic scope of the conference was expanded to include topics such as civil aviation as well as aeronautical and space technology. This thematic expansion was also related to the merger of the Air Force Academy with the Technical University of Košice in 2004, followed by the establishment of the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University of Košice in 2005. The subsequent editions of the conference, from 2006 onwards, have been organised by the Faculty of Aeronautics of the Technical University of Košice.

The conference gained in prestige through its inclusion in the citation databases SCOPUS (2018–2024) and Web of Science in the years 2018, 2020, and 2024.
